The last 24 of february, sunday we met in the “frontón” of Olabeaga (Bilbao-Basque Country) 8 players to play to Tenniquoits. We usually met in that court, it is a cloused court although we gather also in a park of Bilbao or in a beach og Getxo (a big town near Bilbao) to play to Ringtennis or Tennoquoits.
That sunday was special because it was our first ranked tournament. The World Tennoquoits Federation will put again the ranking of players on and we expect to participate in that ranking thanks to this kind of local, but official tournaments.
The weather was good and we made 4 competitive pairs for the I Basque Tournament of Teqnniquoits (Doubles). Semifinals, for 3º and 4º position match and the great final. The matches were very intense and finally the best players were Widen Aroni and Daniel Barrientos, two new players.
Daniel said that it was a great competition and he hope to participate again and Julen, another player, said: “it was a beutiful tournament and funny. RingTennis is funny sport, not so hard and you work many skills”.
The Basque Association of Beach Tennis and Minority Sports, our association who tries to develoap minority sports in Bilbao (including tenniquoits), will organize the I. Basque Tournament of Tenniquoits, but this times single men, in june.
